Hindsight is often the most clear way to look at things. With many emotions tied to our past, we often end up regretting the very things that make us who we are, especially those things that may not show our best qualities or may be judged as dark. The very nature of life puts us in relationship, as we desire it and want it, no matter how healthy or unhealthy. I asked Babs once if he thought people were made for one another. He replied that we may be, yet the work we do is what holds us in those relationships with purpose, strength and love. I would agree. It’s like all the blinders are gone, all the facades lifted and all the sheen exposed for what it is. You forever chase the potent position of each new height until you realize its repetition. The often mysterious nature of meeting another is sometimes revealed by the simple rules of attraction. Enjoy speaks of the desire to experience one another amidst the healing process of a broken heart. The longing for affection and intimacy, confounded by the desire for freedom and non-commitment, leaves one to learn a lot. That new love may often be present among those you associate with, yet without clarity and due to much distraction, you may never see them for who they really are. This image of my screaming face was first painted in 2005 for a group show at AGC. That canvas received great attention and praise, yet its current whereabouts are unknown. The image carried forth into more work and has become iconic with TheKidBelo. Rest, shown here, was first painted in 2009 in the midst of a tumultuous part of my life. The imagery speaks for itself and its emotion is well known. This piece is one of the most personal pieces of all my works and is the pinnacle piece of this collection.
