The Water Centre (Part A1)

Size:220' x 8'

Media:Aerosol (2010)

This is Part A of the City of Calgary's, The Water Centre, mural. This piece is on the north end of the hallway on the lower level. The graffiti says "resources". The triangles represent 3 things: the connection between man, land and water, the 3 stages of water; liquid, vapor and ice, and finally the water cycle; evaporation, condensation and precipitation. The "Services" side, as well as the "Resources" side, both host graffiti pieces done in a classic New York style. The fill in the letters is somewhat an old school way of doing things and I believe brought about a busy, vibrant look to a boring hallway. The graffiti pieces both have a brown background, or shorelines, separated by a blue middle section which represents our water source, the Bow River. The more legible lettering in the water and the logos associated with them are my designs to represent the city and the building. On the left, or Services side, is the word Calgary with a silhouette of the city, the mountains with the Bow flowing off them and the Saddledome at its base. On the right is my rendition of the building, also in silhouette form, with the word, Water.

TEDxYYC

People are inspired daily by TED Talks and I was asked to make the presence of this room at TEDxYYC a bit funky and a bit fresh - so I chromed it out for TED at a height of about 10'. I like big pieces.
